Several senior generals have been shuffled in a major shake-up of the top positions in the Bangladesh Army.
The chief of general staff (CGS) role will be taken over by Maj Gen Md Nazimuddin, currently General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 55 Infantry Division and Jessore area commander.
Lt Gen Sabbir Ahmed, who is currently on Leave Preparatory to Retirement (LPR), will have his post filled in by Gen Nazim.
Maj Gen Md Saiful Abedin, now commandant of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), will be the new director general of the powerful military intelligence body DGFI, succeeding Maj Gen Mohammad Akbar Hossain.
Akbar, heading the DGFI for the past four years, will move on to his new role as GOC of 9th Infantry Division at Savar.
An order was issued by the Ministry of Defence relating to the new appointments on Thursday, according to the ISPR.
