BNP Chairperson, opposition leader Khaleda Zia is scheduled to appear before a Dhaka court in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Thursday. Court set the date for January 24 2013 for the case against Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman and five others filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge M Mozammel Haque of the Special Judge’s Court-3 held back the hearing following defence lawyer’s adjournment plea, with accused BNP chief Khaleda Zia in the dock. Moving the adjournment plea, Barrister Moudud Ahmed told the court that since an application for leave-to-appeal against the High Court order in connection with the case is pending before the Appellate Division, the trial court should not proceed further.
Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Shahjahan Omar, Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Sanaullah Mia and Masud Ahmed Talukder assisted Moudud during the hearing.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia appeared before the court in the afternoon in connection with the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She reached the court premises around 1:06 pm and left at about 1:35 pm after the brief hearing.
Hundreds of members of the police and Rab were deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
