BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday urged the government and the Election Commission to install a polls-time neutral government and deploy army during polls as per the desire of most political parties.
Fakhrul said, “Most of the political parties said an election-time neutral administration, deployment of army and dissolving parliament are necessary for a neutral and fair election. We hope the government and the Election Commission will take steps in this regard.”
The BNP leader further said, “We would like to say clearly that if the election-time government is not installed, parliament is not dissolved and army is not deployed, the election won’t be acceptable to anyone.”
Fakhrul was talking to reporters after placing wreaths together with Jubo Dal leaders and activists at BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave, marking the party’s youth wing’s 39th founding anniversary.
“We’ve earlier said the Commission’s dialogue with the political parties was not credible as the EC are saying they can’t do anything beyond their jurisdiction. I think the Commission should take steps for it following discussions with political parties,” he added.
Fakhrul also urged the Election Commission to take measures to make the election fair for all parties.
