The High Court has directed the government to stop the use of hydraulic horns all across the country, in order to curb sound pollution.
HC bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order after concluding hearing of a supplementary petition.
Earlier on August 23, the same bench banned the use of hydraulic horns in Dhaka as human rights organisation Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh filed a writ petition in this regard on August 22.
Later on October 8, the transport owners and drivers of Dhaka were given 15 days to deposit the hydraulic horns used in their vehicles to their respective police stations.
Following that, a writ petition was filed seeking ban on the use of hydraulic horns across the country.
According to the writ petition, any machine which causes sound pollution cannot be used as per Motors Vehicles Ordinance.
However, many vehicles violate the act and us hydraulic horns.
