Police said extra-marital affair is the main reason behind the killing of a man and his daughter in the capital’s Badda area.
Mostak Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police(DMP), Gulshan division said those while briefing the reporters on Saturday.
He said that the prime suspects Arjina Begum, wife of victim Jamil Sheikh and Shahin Mallik confessed to police that they had an extra-marital affair and they killed Jamil and Nusrat.
“Nine-year-old Nusrat Jahan was murdered as she had witnessed her father’s killing,” police said.
“Jamil was sleeping with his two children, when Shahin hit him on the head on the night of Thursday.”
The DMP officer said Shahin hit Jamil on the head with a piece of wood, when Jamil woke up. He was struck once again and died.
“The couple’s daughter Nusrat woke up and saw her father was assaulted. She then asked about the assault.”
“Her mother Arjina then took her daughter outside, when the 9-year-old was still asking the same question.”
Although at first Arjina did not want to kill her, but later she agreed in a bid to save herself, the police officer said.
Earlier, on Thursday, Jamil (38), and his daughter Nusrat (9), were found dead in their rented house at Moynar Bagh in Dhaka’s Badda area.
On information, police recovered the bodies from the residence.
Jamil’s body bore multiple stab injuries while Nusrat might have been strangled to death, said police.
Kazi Wazed Ali, Officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station, said, Shamim Sheikh, brother of the victim Jamil, filed a murder case accusing Arjina, and Shahin on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, police detained Arjina from the crime scene for interrogation at Moynarbagh in Badda area of the capital.
