A project involving Tk 665.61 crore for development and renovation of nearly 10,000 universal social infrastructures was approved on Tuesday by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec).
The development works will cover a number of graveyards, mosques, crematories, temples and churches.
The approval was made during the Ecnec meeting held at the NEC conference with the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal briefed the reporters after the meeting.
The list of 10,000 social and religious infrastructures have been prepared following the recommendations of the members of parliament (MPs), Kamal said.
He also said that a total of 10 projects were approved with and it will cost nearly Tk 5,180.73 crore. Among the projects nine are new and rest one is revised project.
Of the total cost Tk 4,462.25 crore will come from the national exchequer while Tk 19.93 crore will come from the fund of the organization.
Implementation of the ‘Universal Social Infrastructure Development Project’ in all the upazilas by June 2020 was also discussed in the meeting and the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) will carry out the task.
Tk 1 crore will be provided to each of the upazilas to run the development activities.
Under the project, Tk 109 crore will be provided as block allocations to provide more than Tk one core if there is more requirement.
Rural infrastructures development of Sylhet Division and greater Comilla, construction of multistoried integrated government office building in Gopalganj and rehabilitation through slope protection work are the notable projects which will also be carried out following the approval.
Ministers, State Ministers, Planning Commission members, among others, were present in the meeting.
