The Customs Intelligence and Investigations Directorate have ordered to bring in some documents from the World Bank regarding 16 vehicles, alleging the global lender has misused the tax-free vehicles in Bangladesh.
Other than summoning the pass-books of the vehicles, the Customs directorate also asked where the vehicles are at the moment.
Director General of Customs Intelligence Mainul Khan briefed reporters about the matter.
Customs Intelligence has issued a letter to WB country director regarding the matter.
The global lenders have been given seven days to respond to the letter.
According to Bangladesh’s law, foreigners working here and the aid agencies can avail tax-free vehicles. However, they have to take pass-books from the Customs Intelligence in order to bring in the vehicles.
Customs Intelligence investigated and found that those vehicles were imported into the country four to five years ago but WB did not submit specific information.
