Emilia Monjowa Lifaka, Cameroon national assembly’s deputy speaker, has been elected new chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).
CPA member countries cast their votes for electing the new chairperson in an election at the general assembly of the 63rd CPC.
The result was announced Tuesday.
Two other candidates for the post were Shirley M Osborne MLA, speaker of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly and Niki Rattle, speaker of the Cook Islands Parliament.
Monjowa Lifaka bagged a total 107 votes, out of 192 votes cast, while Niki Rattle 70 and Shirley M Osborne got 15 votes.
The tenure of incumbent Chairperson Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury ends this year.
