Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has alleged that BNP leaders and activists themselves ‘attacked’ the motorcade of Khaleda Zia in a bid to make it an issue.
Quader, also General Secretary of ruling Awami League, came up with the allegation while briefing the media at the Secretariat on Sunday.
“BNP chairperson could have chosen to fly by air, instead she decided to travel by road, maybe to show Awami League the public support for them. But when they realized that was not so, they planned the attack,” claimed Quader.
Referring to the attacks on the vehicles of media personnel accompanying Khaleda’s car, the minister questioned, “Why would Awami League attack journalists’ cars?”
Earlier, on Saturday, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade that was heading towards Cox’s Bazar for her visit to Rohingya refugee camps, came under attack at Mohammad Ali Bazar near Feni district town.
At least 45 people were injured and some 30 vehicles, including those of journalists, were damaged in the incident.
