The Rollball World Cup 2017 kicked off on Friday at Mansur Ali Handball Stadium in the capital where Bangladesh achieved a comfortable 19-1 victory against Hong Kong.
Rollball, originating in neighbor India, is not only a little-known sport in Bangladesh but in Latvia, Slovenia and other parts of the world as well.
Bangladesh men’s team captain Mohammad Asif Iqbal has big hopes for rollball and believes the game’s popularity and access will spread in Bangladesh through this World Cup.
“Rollball has become a known game in Bangladesh and it has good prospect in the future,” said Asif.
The world cup was inaugurated by Planning Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal MP in the morning and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will distribute prizes after the final on the afternoon of February 23, speakers informed.
This is the 4th installment of the fairly new game, the first one was held back in 2011. The capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka hosts this years event.
