Production at Ashuganj Fertiliser Chemical Company Limited was halted around 10.30 on Wednesday morning due to gas crisis.
Earlier on April 15, Bakhrabad Gas Systems Ltd, the local gas supplier, sent a letter to stop fertiliser production, said SS Kamran, managing director of the fertiliser company.
As a result, the factory cannot produce around 1,200 metric tones of fertiliser daily – counting a loss of at least Tk 1.68 crore everyday.
“There is no scope of shortage in our supply as plenty of storage is there. In the current fiscal a total of 80 thousand metric tones of fertilizer were produced here,” said the MD.
He, however, could not confirm when the gas supply and production would resume.
To ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the summer, the government has decided to stop gas supply to all fertiliser factories in the country.
