Twenty 20 gold bars weighing 2 kilograms worth about Taka one crore and a huge quantity of contraband foreign
cigarette were seized from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday.
Customs officials boarded the flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, soon after it had landed at the airport around 6.30 am and found the gold bars hidden under seat number 7-E.
The estimated cost of the seized gold bars which were wrapped in scotch tape and weighed 100 grams each, is Taka one crore, officials said, adding that the seat was found to be unoccupied.
In another drive, officials of the preventive team of customs arrested seven people returning from Pakistan along with 430 cartons of contraband foreign cigarettes worth about Taka 12.90 lakh.
The seven were arrested from a flight (UL-189) of Sri Lankan Airlines around 1.30pm on Wednesday.
